Selling on social
Social media is a social platform, let’s say it together! Business owners usually have one thing on their minds, selling their product or service, right? While all of that is great and good, it is extremely important to remember what it is like to be a consumer.
What attracts you to want to buy? What are you drawn to? Are you an emotional buyer? You MUST take the time to stop and answer these questions before moving forward in your journey of selling on social media. So, let’s put ourselves in the mindset of a consumer. In order for this to work, you’ve got to be 100% honest with yourself.
1. Do you enjoy commercials and/or ads?
2. Do you prefer watching ads or do you skip over them as fast as possible?
3. Who are the people you enjoy following the most on social media? Is it a chef, pro golfer, a TV personality that you just cannot get enough of? (we will circle back to this)
4. Have you ever purchased ANYTHING they have worn, talked about, or used?
5. When scrolling, are you attracted to funny memes or skit-like content?
6. Have you ever seen a quote or heard a motivational speech and felt motivated to take any kind of action and sent it to your best friend?
We could go on all day…but you catch my drift!
Going back to question number 3, who are you following on social and why are you following them. I can BET you it is not because they are just consistently posting mid-product images and saying “We love our X product! Come see how great it is and we know you need at least one in your life”. No, that is not happening.
People buy with their emotions, make decisions with their emotions, and as business owners we need to cater to that. So here is your homework:
1. Write down the top 5 people you follow on social
2. Why do you follow them?
3. Are they selling a product or service?
4. What do you like about their content?
5. Have you or would you ever buy from them?
I am going to check back in with you guys next week and I want to hear your answers! Drop a comment and tell me your answers!
